Alicia McPharlin

Alicia McPharlin

Alicia is a highly skilled microbiologist who holds a Bachelor’s degree in applied sciences from Auckland University of Technology, in addition to IICRC WRT and AMRT certifications. Alicia worked for several years in a specialised laboratory where she analysed samples for microbial contamination including spore traps and building materials.

With a comprehensive scientific and technical understanding of mould, Alicia wanted to apply this knowledge to the physical aspect of remediation and has more recently been working in the mould remediation industry as a technician and consultant for Biodec. “Physically working in the industry his key in broadening my knowledge of applied processes and helps me to relate to the technicians that I teach” she says.

Alicia is also currently studying toward a graduate Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health as her current role requires knowledge about a range of occupational hazards. “My aim is to impart my knowledge to other technicians to help them get the job done right the first time”.

Andy Ferguson

Andy Ferguson

With over 40 years in the cleaning and restoration industry, Andy boasts a wealth of knowledge in the areas of carpet, upholstery and hard floor cleaning, stain removal, and water damage restoration.

Andy is an IICRC Master Textile Cleaner, having completed training in IICRC Water Damage Restoration, Commercial Carpet Maintenance, Carpet Repair and Reinstallation, Upholstery and Fabric, Leather Cleaning, Odour Control, and Colour Repair.  He is also a past Vice President of the Carpet Cleaners Association of NZ.

These experiences have taught him three very valuable lessons:

  1.  Market yourself to present a ‘professional’ image, and perform like a professional
  2.  Acquire knowledge . . . become an expert at what you do by acquiring the best in depth knowledge through quality training and on site experiences
  3. Shell out the money and use the best equipment – which lasts

He says “We never stop learning in this profession because new technologies are always being developed and new textiles and floorings are being created.”
